Full Full Full Filling!

So lunch really filled me up.

I had my leftover salmon…again!

I told you there were a ton of leftovers. I don’t know what it was about today, but the salmon tasted so good! I think all the flavors from the yogurt sauce had time to marinate and gave the salmon so much flavor. I included with lunch some more organic brown rice-we have tons of that leftover too. And to change it up a little I added pasta sauce on top of the rice.

I wish I had a picture and the name of this sauce, but I got it at Magruder’s and have never had it before. It is so fresh tasting, and incredibly flavorful. I’m definitely buying this type again. It has vegetables, garlic, and basil..oh it was yummy! I also had a side of green and red peppers that were slightly heated in the microwave.

I cut them up before work, but didn’t have time to cook them, and I’m not always a fan of raw peppers. So I decided to heat them up in the microwave and add just a little cheese to them. I have to let you know that I’ve never done this before-but it was a great addition!

Like I said before I get to taste test cheese and work, and today I decided to go with a Pecorino Toscano Fresco. This is not your typical pecorino. This cheese is nothing like Parmesan and other Pecorinos and is fairly mild. It is fresh tasting, not stinky, and mildly sweet. Very smooth, and wonderful on top of green peppers! :-)

After that meal I am stuffed! I better save room for my dinner tonight at Bacchus of Lebanon! Can’t wait to write my first restaurant review!

My afternoon snack consisted of an apple and a KIND bar. This flavor was DE-LICIOUS! Holy Moly! The coconut made it sweet, and it was chewy and crunchy all at the same time. It really made me happy. Not very filling, and more calories then I would have liked, but it seems fairly healthy-and is all natural.

I prefer my apples cut up. It takes longer to eat.

Have you ever tried these?

014 - Copy (2)

They are horrible for you, but we were passing them around at work, and I indulged in 1…or 2?

015 - Copy (2)

Oh I wish they were not so bad for you.

These don’t really go along with healthy living, but that is why I say I am every-OTHER-day gourmet. You can’t be good all the time. :-)

Boring Morning

July 30, 2009 · 2 Comments

Not too much to report. Today was my day off from working out, and I am not as dedicated as the other healthy living bloggers who still do a small workout on their day off. I did my daily leg lifts, and push ups, but that was it. My legs are still killing me from yesterday! Can you believe it? I had to get into work early so I brought my breakfast with me.

*Oikos Vanilla Greek Yogurt
*strawberries and blueberries
*1-100 calorie pack of almonds

I absolutely adore these small 100 calorie pack almonds.

I don’t know about you, but I have a serious addiction to nuts, and if I buy in bulk I can’t stop eating them. This is the perfect size to satiate the little hunger that you get in between meals, and is a healthy snack. They are a little more expensive then buying in bulk, but I find them convenient, and portable-therefore-wonderful!

I like the vanilla Oikos, but I think my favorite flavor so far is the plain w/ Honey on the bottom. It really hits the spot! But in any case these yogurts are awesome because they are so thick and filling with out all the calorie! YUMO! K-back to work.

Deja vu?

July 30, 2009 · 1 Comment

Well the rest of the day went well, but just like yesterday I was hungry all day. I think today I was so hungry because I ran so long this morning. For lunch I just had my leftovers from dinner last night.

Look familiar? Salmon , turnips, green beans, and a little organic brown rice.

That held me for quite a while actually. Later in the afternoon I had a few strawberries and some quality Yogi tea. I really like this flavor because it smells like cinnamon, and has a little spiciness thanks to the cinnamon.

Since I was working late today I decided to bring my dinner to work. I find that if I schedule my meals I don’t over eat because I never let myself get too hungry.

For dinner I had a whole wheat tortilla with a small slice of cheese, deli meat ham, tons of kale, and hot sauce. This combination was AWESOME. I have really started to love kale. It is such a healthy vegetable (isn’t it one of the superfoods?), and it gives my sandwiches so much more character then lettuce. The hot sauce was just the “umph” the sandwich needed.

I really need to invest in some red pepper flakes. I like my food spicy sometimes, but hot sauce tends to have too much salt, and I try to stay away from eating too much salt. I found this one to be rather lean on the salt, and it has a nice taste. But I would still like to get red pepper flakes soon!

One of the other perks of my job is that we sell artisanal cheeses, gourmet crackers, and some charcuterie as well as other gourmet treats. Just seeing this everyday makes my stomach grumble.

At the store I am in charge of picking out the cheeses, and sometimes I like to test taste them. The cheese I chose for my wrap tonight was one of my favorites. It is Istara P’tite Basque.

027 (2)

This cheese is from the Basque region in France and has one of the most unique flavors of any cheese I have tasted. A hard cheese with a creamy texture, a little sweetness, and a touch of nuttiness. Not too stinky, and perfect for any occasion. It’s a tad expensive, but it soooo delicious! I could probably eat the whole wheel(its a tiny wheel).

After my dinner I needed something sweet. I ate some strawberries and blueberries along with a Cliff Z Bar.

These are geared towards kids, but I love them because they only have 120 calories and it is the perfect amount of sweetness I need. It is just like eating a brownie for me. I am a HUGE fan. And they are healthy! An added bonus!

When I got home I still had a hankering for something so Chris (my boyfriend) and I split some French desserts and a tiny chocolate. (not pictured) Probably not the best choice, but Oh so good! Now I’m off to finish watching So You Think You Can Dance! GO BRANDON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
