Race Results

October 2, 2009 · 1 Comment

I just found my race results online for the Kensington 8K. I came in 121 out of 541. I had no idea there was actually 541 runners. That was way more then I thought.

  • Chip Time: 39:27.6
  • Gun Time: 39:43.9
  • Difference: 0:16.3
  • Average Pace: 7.59/mile

Not too bad. I’m happy with that. It’s my very first race so it is a PR for me.

For lunch I made a sandwich on an Arnold Whole Grain Sandwich Thin. It was a combination of leftover chicken and pork from previous dinners. I sliced the meat on the thin and added spinach, mushrooms, and tomato. I also drizzled with a little Asian toasted sesame seed dressing.

I had the leftover veggies on the side.

This sammie was pretty good.

For a little dessert I tried a new Luna cookie.

022

I liked how they were individually cut.

023

It made me feel like I was eating cookies.

024

The taste and texture reminded me of a Clif bar. This particular one didn’t have much peanut butter taste and was a little dry.

I’m saving this for later to munch on. Gotta get in those carbs!!

I have a race day game plan that I will share with you all later along with my playlist for the run tomorrow. AHHH getting so excited!!!

Pumpkin Morning

October 2, 2009 · 2 Comments

It’s been a pumpkin kind of morning. I had lots to do before I leave tonight, and since I’m running my very first 1/2 marathon tomorrow I thought I would give my legs a little rest.

I am a little nervous for the race, but after I got my first race jitters out of my system I am feeling a lot better about racing. I know this is a mileage I have not yet run, but I know I am capable of making it. I originally signed up for this race to be a practice run before the Baltimore 1/2 marathon which I plan to take a little more seriously.

The race is in Shepherdstown, WV so my family and Chris are leaving tonight to go down there and stay overnight.

This will be better than driving over an hour at the crack of dawn before I run 13 miles. The race is through the beautiful national and historic parks, and afterwords they are having music, food, and Oktoberfest. Does it get much better then that? Hopefully the rain will hold off for us. Keep your fingers crossed!

I’m so lucky my family and Chris are coming to support me. It means so much that they will be there when I finish. I just wish my brother was able to be there as well! :-(

So as I was packing and getting the apt cleaned up this morning I made my breakfast. Growing up I ate a lot of oatmeal. But my mom always made oatmeal with water, and we always used honey and never anything else. Since I’ve been reading blogs I have realized that there are so many different ways to make oatmeal. In lieu of fall I jumped on the pumpkin oats bandwagon and decided to try it for myself.

I’m not sure if I didn’t make them properly, but it wasn’t as good as I was hoping. Maybe I didn’t add enough pumpkin. I made it with equal parts milk and water (I love using milk-it makes the oatmeal thick and rich), pumpkin puree, cinnamon, nutmeg, pumpkin pie spice, and a little agave. I also had a side of strawberries and some coffee.

I realized the oats needed a little something more so I added some dried cranberries to them. This helped a lot!

This morning I had Italian coffee with my breakfast. When I was in Italy, Walter Lodali, was so nice and gave me a big bag of Italian coffee to take home. It is outstanding. Really bold and rich. Thanks Walter!

The oats made me stuffed, which is good because I have a busy day at work. Be back later!!! So much to do today!

Choices

October 2, 2009 · 3 Comments

I wasn’t originally going to share with you what I ate today because my food choices were not very “healthy living blog style”. But then I thought about why I created a blog, and it was to share with you my journey to maintaining healthy and happy. I’m not perfect, and sometimes I don’t eat very well. I am still learning and growing, so I felt like I needed to be honest and share some of my meals today. They aren’t the best, but like I said, I still struggle everyday with making good food decisions.

I really wasn’t hungry after my run this morning which is strange, but I ate a Pure bar on the way to work.

Lunch was a chicken sandwich with lettuce, tomato, mustard, and leftover Stilton from last night’s Port tasting. This would have been good with a little something sweet on it. There was way too much spicy and salty going on. While I was making the sandwich I was munching on Stilton and whole wheat crackers. (I could have done with out this)

Snacks were some nuts and other things not pictured, and dinner was a easy pop in the oven pizza. I really like Freschetta because it is not greasy and has lots of veggies. So I had 4 small slices of that. Really not the best pizza. Another snack was a whole wheat pita and some salsa. (sorry no pics)

Now I’m enjoying a glass of Columbia Crest Cabernet while watching some Grey’s Anatomy.

Better choices tomorrow because I have my big race on Saturday! Ahh I am really really nervous!
