Overcoming Obstacles

October 6, 2009 · Leave a Comment

If you didn’t know…I am on Twitter, and you should follow me. While I was on there today I saw this quote from @GreatestQuotes that I thought was just perfect for today. “Nothing is an obstacle unless you say it is.” – Wally Amos

If I think about running with out an iPod for 13 miles as an obstacle then it WILL be an obstacle. If I look at it as “something I can do” than it “WILL be something I can do”.

Ok-on to an awesome lunch. Last night Chris an I ordered a thin crust pizza with green pepper and onions. It was pretty good, but also very big. Thank goodness for leftovers.

For lunch I had 2 large pieces that I topped with fresh tomato, basil, and a Sun-Dried Tomato Basil Gardenburger. Fitting right? I am really starting to love veggie burgers..A LOT! All these additions were STUPENDOUS! It was tomato-basil-wonderful-ness.

This lunch was really very good and quite filling. Today is starting to look up!
For a snack I had an apple with 1/2 C low fat cottage cheese. I just wish I had some cinnamon!

Ken Forrester, the winemaker, came by the store to taste us on his spectacular South African wines. I didn’t know much about him or his wines and really wasn’t in the mood to taste, but I was forced into it. And good thing I was because I was BLOWN AWAY! His wines were spectacular. Absolutely stunning. My favorites were The FMC, The Gypsy, Ken Forrester Sauvignon Blanc, and the Ken Forrester Chenin Blanc. These were definitely food wines, and I just wish I had some scallops or curry to try them with. Literally STUNNING.

By the way-that shirt I am wearing my mom bought for me in Spain. THANKS MOM!

I just wish I could afford a bottle of The FMC because I would take it home tonight! So delish!

Just when you thought it couldn’t get any worse…

(Again-another post where my pics got lost. These may be copies of pics from another post )

As you read earlier-I didn’t have the BEST start to my morning. So I decided to make myself a nice breakfast and watch Gossip Girl. I also cut up all the veggies for dinner so when I get home tonight all the prep work is done!

Check out my cool Halloween Inspired breakfast.

Pumpkin Oats with a little Vanilla Oikos and dried cranberries. I topped the oats with a little Agave as well.

I love things with my Initials on it. I also have a water bottle with an “L” that I love.

So things were go well, and then I got a phone call from my co-worker asking where I was. I was supposed to be in at 10 today NOT 11. Oh goodness. So I ran out the door and headed to work. Luckily I was already dressed and my lunch was already made.

I get to work and find out that something I was supposed to do yesterday didn’t get done, and I had to rush to finish it. Already feeling upset with myself for being late I got really down on myself for not completing a task. I am very organized, and I always finish everything I am asked to do, but this one just fell through the cracks.

Once the task was complete I went downstairs to grab a new Kombucha tea that I have been dying to try. I was actually craving it at the moment. I took it out of the refrigerator and it just slid right through my fingers. CRASH on the floor in a million gazillion little pieces. Tea was everywhere. This is when I paused and said “Really? Is this REALLY happening to me today?” I was upset that I just dropped a drink and had to clean it up, but even more upset that it was a FOUR DOLLAR drink!

I know that these issues are small, and things couldn’t be A LOT worse, so now I am trying to stay positive and tackle anything this day plans to give me. I also did some thinking while I was having breakfast and wrote down some positive things to help me get through my race on Saturday WITH OUT my iPod.

  • This will make you stronger
  • This is a challenge that you can overcome
  • This is a new experience
  • You will be more in tune with your running and what is going on around you
  • You have run before with out head phones
  • There will be a ton of people and distractions to keep you occupied
  • You are capable of doing this

Can you tell I am EXTREMELY nervous about this? I’m nervous about the whole event on Saturday. It is going to be massively packed, I would like to beat my time from last Saturday, and I can’t wear my iPod. I am going to just focus on the goal and that is finishing. I am going to train well this week, try not to stress, and just be happy that I can participate in an wonderful event like this. I know it will all work out in the end!!

Not such a Great Start

October 6, 2009 · Leave a Comment

WARNING-this post does not have pictures.

Today has not started out so well. First I should tell you that yesterday I was SO hungry! It was like all that running on Saturday finally caught up to me. On Sunday I was barely hungry, but yesterday was a whole other story. I almost felt faint and weak at one point. It was really strange. Unfortunately I didn’t prepare for hunger like this and tried to get the best snacks I could. I just felt like I couldn’t get full. It was really frustrating.

Last night for dinner I just did a pizza with veggies and a small bowl of low fat ice cream. Sorry no pics-I was too involved in House and Lie To Me and totally forgot.

As for today-I wanted to start out on a good foot and do an 8 mile run I had scheduled, but by mile 2 I was having major stomach problems and had to walk home. I hate when that happens. Then when I got home I decided to start reading my packet for this weekends 1/2 marathon. Yes, thats right, I said PACKET! It is really overwhelming when you get a packet of information to read for a race you are running. There are 1,500 people signed up for the half marathon and 500 people on the wait list. INSANE! Anyways, as I was reading the rules and regulations I came across the Prohibited Items and “no musical devices of any kind” was listed. NO say it isn’t so! I need my iPod. You don’t understand! Music is the ONLY thing that helps keep me pumped up and going while I’m running. My heart just sank when I read that.

Now I have NO idea what I am going to do. I know there will be a lot of people to pump me up and cheering, but nothing helps me keep going like my iPod and music. I am so incredibly bummed right now. I’m discouraged, worried, nervous, and upset all at the same time. I was already nervous about this race to begin with because it is such a HUGE event, but now that I can’t wear my iPod for 13 miles. Lets just say I’m freaking out!

I’m trying to make the best of this morning so I’m going to do some stretched, watch some much needed Gossip Girl on DVR and have some coffee out of a new mug I found.

Be back lata.
